A Quick Look at Changan iDD Hybrid Technology Taking the Changan UNI-K iDD as an example, this hybrid is powered by the Blue Whale NE 1.5T hybrid-specific engine, which uses the Agile Combustion System, along with technologies such as the Intelligent Thermal Management System, Miller Cycle, and Intelligent Lubrication System. This engine has a maximum power of 122kW/5500rpm and a maximum torque of 255N-m/1500-4000rpm.


In addition, Changan iDD is equipped with a triple-clutch transmission with six gears, which can be regarded as an upgraded version of the dual-clutch transmission, and high-efficiency high-pressure hydraulic system, intelligent electronic dual-pump technology, which can achieve a transmission efficiency of 90% of the overall transmission efficiency, and even go up to 98.5%. The advantage of this transmission is that in the event of power battery failure, drive motor strike, Changan iDD's engine is also able to directly start and drive the vehicle, which can not be done in other DHT models car for the time being. The advantage of multiple gears is that when running on the highway, it will save fuel compared to other DHTs with three or two gears.  Then it has a P2 motor set up in a six-speed triple-clutch transmission (which together form the Blue Whale Electric Drive Transmission), with coupling/decoupling control between the engine and the Blue Whale Electric Drive Transmission via clutch C1. The triple-clutch transmission is the set of clutches that control engine intervention, as well as the two sets in the dual-clutch transmission. Through the transmission control can realize a variety of driving modes such as pure electric driving, high-performance hybrid and power retention. Therefore it this set of transmission can be a certain degree to solve the current dual clutch transmission durability, stability and frustration problems and other pain points.


When it comes to the drive motor part, it has technologies such as IGBT double-sided cooling, S-winding winding (power density 10kW/kg, comprehensive drive efficiency 90%). The maximum power of this motor is 85kW, and the maximum torque is 330N-m. The Changan UNI-K iDD is a PHEV, so it naturally has to carry a larger capacity battery, which has a capacity of 30.7kwh, and a NEDC pure electric range of 130km. It's worth mentioning that the entire model lineup is equipped with a standard AC fast charger with a capacity of 6.6kW, which can charge the battery from 30% of the capacity to 30% of the capacity in 30 minutes through DC fast charging. The battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes via DC fast charging, and supports external discharge function with a power of 3.3kW.


Finally, Changan UNI-K iDD has several operating modes. Pure electric mode: the engine is not involved in the work, the battery drives the P2 motor, pure electric drive, suitable for urban road conditions; hybrid mode: when encountering rapid acceleration, the engine output is pulled full, the P2 motor as a power booster to provide more power, adjusted by the dual-clutch transmission, the power will be ultimately exported to the wheels, the whole system is driven in tandem; the engine direct-drive mode: to control the intervention of the engine clutch C1 coupling, at this time can be regarded as a normal fuel oil, the engine can be used as the engine, and the engine can be used as the engine. At this point can be regarded as a normal fuel vehicle; charging mode: the blue whale electric drive transmission has two logics for charging - drive charging and idling charging; drive charging: because the P2 motor is directly set on the input shaft of the dual clutch transmission, therefore, when the engine is driving, it drives the P2 motor, thus replenishing the energy for the battery; idling Charging: when the vehicle stops, the engine continues to run, driving the P2 motor, thus charging the battery.
